Pragi's Fiery Gaze

What's it called? Pragi's Fiery Gaze (in brief, PFG)

What does it do? It creates from an eye a ball of fire that roars and burns everyone in a room. That's it. It sounds straight-away and simple, but don't let that fool you: this is the best and most important spell in the Disc for any wizard.
So, why is it so valuable? Well, the amount of damage it does, with decent skills, is quite good (see notes). Its component is near-inexhaustible, meaning you'll be able to cast the spell continuously as long as you have a knife and fresh kills; its gp expenditure (40) is quite reasonable; and it seems to tm incredibly well (although this might be a result of it being the most frequently cast spell there is).
Setbacks? It doesn't have many. Probably the worst is that it does very little or no damage to 'rocky' and similar life forms. Some would complain that, being a room spell, it hits *everything* in a room, including things that casually wonder in. This makes it unconfortable in some places.
All in all, my favourite spell and one you are probably employing as much as I am...

Where is it? Well, as its mechanism is turning a ripped eyeball into a fireball, it fittingly belongs to the Ae Thouesand and Onne Thyngs ae Boye cann Do with Corpse Partes grimoire, at the Unseen University Library.

What does it require? An eye.

What skills do I need? Evoking, Channeling, Enchanting, Animating, Fire

Has it worked? The proper output should read something like this:

You prepare to cast Pragi's Fiery Gaze.
You lazily close your hand around the eye.
You poke your tongue out at the world.
You struggle to hold your hand closed as red sparks shoot out from between your fingers.
You let go of the eye. It hovers above your hand.
The eye ignites and a small ball of fire forms above your hand.
You move your hand and the ball of fire zooms out into the inmediate vicinity and sweeps over everything.
The fire xxx (see notes).
The fire dies away.

Pragi's Fiery Gaze is a first order offensive spell that forms a ball of fire from an eye, washing the fire around the area to burn things.

Notes:

Like the other so-called Pragi clones, the damage that you have done to your oponents with this spell can be determined from the outputs you get while casting about how badly your rivals have been 'burned'. We have the following possibilities of percentage damage (in relation to victim's top hps):

The fire singes the xxx (0-15%)
The fire burns the xxx (15-35%)
The fire crisps the xxx (35-55%)
The fire melts the xxx (55-75%)
The fire incinerates the xxx (75-90%)
The fire vaporises the xxx (90+%)

Narquin’s Hand of Acquisition

What's it called? Narquin’s Hand of Acquisition (in short, NHA)

What does it do? Well, this spell (one of a kind with the Dismal Digit of Doom) will allow you to reanimate a dead body's hand, so that it can do the easy task of fetchting items for you that might be lying in the next-door rooms. That sums it up, really.
As to its use, it might come handy (*snarf, snarf*) for retrieving Endorfin shields or choice weapons without having to re-enter the combat arena, but otherwise, I consider it a toy spell in the main, and don't employ it much.

Where is it? You're talking about dead bits and pieces here, so the spell aptly lies inside the Ae Thouesand and Onne Thyngs ae Boye cann Do with Corpse Partes grimoire, at the Unseen University Library.

What does it require? What do you think? A dead whale? A cup of sherry? No, of course not. A hand. From a dead body. And it is obviously consumed in the process.

What skills do I need? Convoking, Healing, Animating

Has it worked? The proper output should read something like this:

You project your thoughts into your hand and think ethereal.
You use magical energy to repair the tendons and other necessary portions of the hand.
You hold out your hand and hold the corpse’s hand in it.
The hand levitates out of your hand and looks curiously at you

Narquin's Hand of Acquisition - erect a limp wrist.

This spell lets you animate the hand of a dead person and force it to nick stuff from nearby rooms.

Notes:

Once you've done a succesful cast, you will also get the following 'directing' message:

Use ‘grab’ to grab things. You command the hand typing "grab *item* from *direction*"

Myrandil's Mask of Death

What's it called? Myrandil's Mask of Death (in short, MMD)

What does it do? Here we have one of the nicer and funnier examples of toy spells (in this case, specially catered -both thematically and because of the primaries required- for those of the Midnight persuation. It is nevertheless quite easy to cast by anybody). Myrandil's Mask will, if I remember well, make your head temporarily shrunk and dissapear out of sight, and give you an overall wasted, (un)healthy and decaying zombie-look.
Sekiri's description mentions worms popping out of the eye sockets and saying 'hello', but even though I've used the spell quite a lot, I didn't ever get those funny emotes. As for its possible usefulness, it gives some taskmasters at low levels in the employed skills, and failures have the funny effect of making the component-head burst and do some damage (you included), which does have some minor utilities (like killing cats in Djelibeybi without being crocked).

Where is it? Being a necromantic trifle, it is to be found among the bits and pieces of the Ae Thouesand and Onne Thyngs ae Boye cann Do with Corpse Partes grimoire at the Unseen University Library.

What does it require? A head. Not yours, mind you. Freshly severed. And an octogram.

What skills do I need? Enchanting, Healing, Summoning, Binding, Abjuring

Has it worked? The proper output should read something like this:

You prepare to cast Myrandil's Mask of Death.
You place a human head in the middle of the octogram.
You imagine what it would take to re-grow the head, then reverse the process.
You send out your thoughts, trying to lure a nearby spirit near you.
The instant a careless spirit crosses the octogram’s boundaries, you grab it with all the force of your will.
You drain the spirit’s power and feed it into the head.
The head flares with green light and then crumbles into nothingness.
You feel your features twist, your skin wrinkle and your flesh move.

Myrandil's Mask of Death - Your appearance becomes corpse-like.

Myrandil's Mask of Death is a first order miscellaneous spell which makes the caster look like a corpse.

Dismal Digit of Doom

What's it called? Dismal Digit of Doom (in short, DDD)

What does it do? This spell allows you to send an anonymous and macabre message to someone of your choice. The message will be written for them by a dismal finger, that will afterwards drop back to its dead state.

Well, the message doesn't have to be macabre, really. But sending it through an undead finger is. Nice toy spell, but I'd use it more myself if it wasn't slightly unconvenient with the components, as I don't tend to carry chalk powder with me, except when I am casting the troll-skin. As for index-fingers, they are quite easy to come by with...

Where is it? Along with other body-fetching-and-disturbing spells that make the delights of the Order of Midnight, you may body-snatch this one out of the Ae Thouesand and Onne Thyngs ae Boye cann Do with Corpse Partes grimoire, in the Unseen University Library.

What does it require? just a pinch of chalk powder and an index finger. Both are 'consumed' (if you call it that...) in the process.

What skills do I need? Enchanting, Healing, Binding, Animating

Has it worked? A correct output of the spell should read as follows:

You prepare to cast Dismal Digit of Doom on xxx (Player target).
A voice says: No, you go left into the Street of Small Gods. Right would take you into Attic Bee Street [1].
You give your message to the finger.
You use the chalk dust to patch up the bleeding stump of the finger.
You bind a small amount of magic into the finger.
The finger quivers and shakes in your hand.
The finger crawls away through a small wormhole.

Help Information:

Dismal Digit of Doom - give a scare.

This spell allows you to send a finger to another person with a chilling message.

Notes: The syntax for the spell is a bit tricky. You have to type "cast Dismal Digit of Doom at xxx (target) with **************** (message)".

As for the receiving output, it is something like this:

A small wormhole suddenly opens four feet above the ground and a dismembered index finger crawls through it.

The finger straightens and begins pointing towards you.

It beckons.

The finger slowly begins to write, hovering in mid-air, leaving a softly glowing white trail.

The finger finishes its message and rapidly rots away, leaving only its fingernail behind.

Your eyes are drawn irresistibly to the softly glowing words hanging in the air.

A part of you realises that even though the ancient script is unfamiliar, you can absorb the meaning nonetheless:

Books - Ae Thouesand and Onne Thyngs ae Boye cann Do with Corpse Partes

[We keep the topic in the field of Necromancy, as it seems... Today, the book description of the first of the two cadaver-fiddling grimoires we keep at the library. This first one contains easier spells to cast -most if not all of them will very soon be in the range of any midbie wizard-, among them the famous exploding eyes discovered by Pragi and which form the basic room-offensive spell for all of us (I personally prefer EHA, but candles are rarer to find than eyes).

On the personal anecdotical register, I can announce that I've improved my domain over the weather-ring spell enough to get a 50-60% of successes. Stuffing the elegant rings in my pants, I am starting to feel I little bit like Sauron... Winswand, the Lord of the (Weather) Rings!]

A closed skin-bound grimoire is on the floor.

This heavy grimoire is bound in some sort of pale skin; you try not to think about from what manner of creature the skin was taken.
