Worstler's Elementary Mineralogical Glance

What's it called?  Worstler's Elementary Mineralogical Glance (WEMG for short)

What does it do?  The beginner wizard gets two basic spells for use in traveling and scrying: Amazing Silicate Blorpler is for traveling; it allows him to turn stones, rocks and pebbles into magical items that retain the memory of locations, and on which you can cast the travelling spell, Jogloran's Portal of Cheaper Travel. Unfortunately, rocks can very easily disappear after just a few casts, so as soon as possible, the wizard should upgrade it to Al Hrahaz's Scintilating Blorper, which allows him to imprint locations on more stable rings and jewellery.

The second spell, which a beginner wizard uses for scrying, is this one. It allows him to 'see' into the room which has been imprinted into the memory of a rock via the previous spell. And like with the previous spell, Worstler's Elementary Mineralogical Glance has a big brother with a similar name which allows you to scry into blorpled jewellery.

Where is it? Being mostly a beginner's spell, it is rightly placed in the Begynners' Magick tome, at the Gym(s).

What does it require? A blorpled rock, pebble, stone.

What skills do I need? Earth, Evoking, Scrying

Has it worked? A correct output should read something like this:

cast wemg
You prepare to cast Worstler's Elementary Mineralogical Glance on the black mineral pebble.
You attempt to contact the elemental nature of the black mineral pebble.
You think of the location encoded in the black mineral pebble.
You stare at the black mineral pebble. The black mineral pebble seems to urge you to gaze into it.
gaze into pebble
You see a vision in the black mineral pebble:
This is the kitchen of the second floor flat of the Salt Shaker, complete with the ubiquitous old food smells found in every kitchen. Not much cooking goes on here as some lions have taken it over, perhaps originally drawn here by those same smells, and their idea of food is quite different from that of humans. It doesn't seem as though the clowns mind, however, as is indicated by the fluffy ball on a string they've hung from the ceiling.
There are three obvious exits: west, north and enter door.

Notes: If a room is protected, you are likely to get a message like this when trying to look at it:

The pebble's surface goes blurry, but refuses to show anything of value.

Help Information:

Worstler's Elementary Mineralogical Glance - see a distant location.

Worstler's Elementary Mineralogical Glance is a miscellaneous  type spell that uses the blorpled rock at which it is cast to  scry its encoded location.

Pragi’s Molten Gaze

What's it called
? Pragi’s Molten Gaze (in brief, PMG)

What does it do? A recently introduced spell, this lesser brother of the Pragi fireballs will help you changing the colour of your eyes. The colour is determined by the current one present in the shimmering glass nugget you need for the casting (these colours can be fixed into one you like, although there's the danger of blowing up the nugget if you try with insufficient skills). A good cast will add a line of description to your appearance that goes like this: "The irises of his eyes glow with a strange emerald green light."
The cast will also make the nugget temporarily 'colourless', as a clear glass nugget. This effect doesn't last long.
Overall, a new addition to the toy spells. Not much use in it, really, but some people like to have flashing eyes, and there's no coloured lenses in the disc...

Where is it? We're in the toy-spell arena here. It can be found, therefore, in all the Gym tomes at the magical teaching institutions, inside the Begynners' Magick tome.

What does it require? A shimmering glass nugget (the expensive things you buy for casting the light moth spell), which isn't consumed in the process.

What skills do I need? Animating, Fire, Evoking, Channeling

Has it worked? The proper output should read something like this:

You prepare to cast Pragi's Molten Gaze.
You toss a shimmering glass nugget into the air, where it hangs suspended in front of your eyes.
You fix the nugget with your gaze causing it to spin around on its axis.
It spins faster and faster, blurring as it returns to a molten form.
You probe the molten nugget, seeking out its chromatic essence.
You create a conduit between yourself and the nugget, urging it to release its colour.
The colour drains from the nugget and a flash of emerald green light shoots out from it and into your eyes.
Your eyes start to glow emerald green.
The clear glass nugget cools and solidifies as it drops back down.

Help Information:

Pragi's Molten Gaze - change the colour of your eyes.

Pragi's Molten Gaze is a miscellaneous spell that, when cast successfully, drains the colour of a shimmering glass nugget into the caster's eyes, causing them to glow. The nugget will regain its colour after a short amount of time.

Torqvald's Many Colours

What's it called?
Torqvald's Many Colours (in brief, TMC)

What does it do? This Torqvald's is a very easy and simple to learn toy spell. After casting it, you will 'feel colourful', and change colours from time to time. The effect adds a line to your description (He is a lovely shade of translucent green) , and you get notice of the changes from time to time (You feel red-ish), until its effects wear off (You feel suddenly colourless.).

As you can gather, it isn't a very useful kind of magic, but the rainbow look is nice. You can get the same effect by twisting certain magical clockwork bands, though (they act as an auto-cast of the spell).

Where is it? Like all toy spells, it rightly lies in the Begynners' Magick tome, at the Gyms of all magic-teaching institutions.

What does it require? Nothing at all

What skills do I need? Air, Channeling, Charming

Has it worked? A correct output should read something like this:

You prepare to cast Torqvald's Many Colours.
You ponder shifting light and swirling colours.
You channel magic into your skin.
You use the magic to convince observers of colour where there is none.
You fell colour flow in your veins.
You feel colourful.

Help Information:

Torqvald's Many Colours is a miscellaneous spell that causes the caster's skin to appear to change colours randomly.

Sorklin's Field of Protection

What's it called?
Sorklin's Field of Protection (in brief, SFP)

What does it do? This spell is the poor man's Transcendent Pneumatic Alleviator. It creates a magical protective shield around the caster (or the person on whom it is cast) which will soak up a number of hits before breaking. The stages of shield resistance are shown by the colour it adopts, ranging from invisible (top protection) to flickering yellow (about to break). For more information on the colours, check the future entry on TPA.
The spell is only of marginal use for very young wizards, as it doesn't spend a component and has quite low requirements. Nevertheless, you should be working to switch to its upgraped version as soon as possible.

Where is it? As it protects in a very small degree and doesn't consume components, it belongs to the class of Begynners' Magick spells found at the gyms of most magic-teaching facilities.

What does it require? A shield, that is used for focus and isn't consumed in the process.

What skills do I need? Evoking, Air, Channeling

Has it worked? The proper output should read something like this:

You prepare to cast Sorklin's Field of Protection on xxx.
You consider the function of a shield.
You send your thoughts probing into the air around yourself.
You weave a magical impact shield around yourself.
With a noise that sounds like “Plink!”, everything around you flashes red for a moment.

Help Information:

Sorklin's Field of Protection is a zeroth order defensive spell which places a magical impact shield around the target.

Scolorid's Scintillating Scribbling

What's it called? Scolorid's Scintillating Scribbling (in brief, SSS)

What does it do? It allows you to employ some magic and your finger for writing messages on things. The said lines will be invisible to all except for those of the magic persuasion (wizards and witches).
The characters admit the use of colour, and when you look at an item affected by the spell, you will see the scripture 'Written in softly glowing letters'.
Overall, it is a toy spell that can come quite useful for easy recognition of blorpled ring locations, being cheaper than engraving...

Where is it? We're talking about one of the first spells every wizard is able to cast, so it aptly resides inside the Begynners' Magick grimoires that are to be found at most magical facilities in the Disc.

What does it require? A finger (choice of 1 in ten!), which isn't consumed in the process. Maybe unsharpened... Okay, no component at all.

What skills do I need? Evoking, Binding, Convoking, Enchanting

Has it worked? The proper output should read something like this:

You prepare to cast Scolorid's Scintillating Scribbling on xxx.
You hold your hand as if you had a pen on it.
You slowly straighten your hand so the finger is pointing at xxx.
The end of your finger starts to glow slightly.
Enter the words you wish to write on xxx. You may use up to 88 characters.

Help Information:

Rugged Victor's Rodentia Vivisection

What's it called?
Rugged Victor's Rodentia Vivisection (in brief, RVRV)

What does it do? Here's a magic pesticide. This spell allows you, upon casting, to automatically kill a rat with a rather gruesome death. It generally includes burstings and similar side effects.
The spell belongs to the toy-group, although it is handy at low levels for rat-killing, and it always looks great. I'd say it is my favourite useless spell, and I carry it from time to time because of the treats it gives me (see notes).

Where is it? As it isn't the most useful xp granting piece of sorcery you can find, it belongs inside the Begynners' Magick grimoire present in the different gyms of wizardly institutions.

What does it require? A rat tail, which isn't consumed. It is a good idea to pickle it, or it will rot.

What skills do I need? Charming, Dancing

Has it worked? The proper output should read something like this:

You prepare to cast Rugged Victor's Rodentia Vivisection on the rat.
You flash the rat your best smile.
You turn your foot to the left and shake the rat’s tail in the air ominously.
The rat dies.
A rat... (see notes)
The corpse of a rat quivers, and oozes into nothingness.

Notes:

After making the rat explode, many things can happen. Some of them are as follows: organ dispersion (“A rat tooth bursts out of the corpse of a rat; A rat right rear paw burst out of the corpse of a rat; A rat spleen bursts out of the corpse of a rat...”), tadpoles (“The corpse of a rat starts to twitch violently. A small tadpole suddenly bursts forth from the corpse of a rat!...”), baby rats, or even sweets (“A caramel loveball bursts out of the corpse of a rat”).
For those of the freakish persuasion, the loveball tastes great and looks like this:

This small piece of sultry caramel seems to tantalise and befuddle the senses, as if saying "come on, eat me, you know you want to..." Coquettish swirls and cheeky rivulets run all through the voluptuous caramel, as though it longs to be caressed by your long red tongue and mashed by your strong, virile teeth...

Help Information:

Rugged Victor's Rodentia Vivisection is a first order offensive spell that instantly destroys a given rodent. Rodents may or may not reveal a hidden bounty when destroyed.

No actual rats were harmed during the coding of the spell.

Memories of a Vicious Chicken

What's it called
? Memories of a Vicious Chicken (in short, MVC)

What does it do? Memories of a Vicious Chicken is usually the second offensive spell a newbie wizard has access to, and the first to consume a component. Harking back to evil mementos of murdered poultries and assorted fowl play, this spell allows you to throw a feather at a victim, causing it a mild amount of damage.
From its newbie status, it might be supposed that it isn't of much use, as the damage it does in only slightly higher than the Lance's, with the added incomodity of having to carry large numbers of chicken feathers. Therefore, it is seldom employed, as wizards start maxing and spending for others of the offensive persuasion (usually, Firebunnies and the Mist of Doom). Still, if you have the feathers and the mindspace, it is a cute way of finishing off weakened adversaries.

Where is it? Being a very easy to cast thing of the newbie orientation, these Memories may be found in all of the introductory tomes (Begynners' Magick) that are found at the Gyms of all major magical teaching institutions.

What does it require? A chicken feather, which is consumed in the process.

What skills do I need? Healing, Summoning, Animating

Has it worked? The proper output should read something like this:

You prepare to cast Memories of a Vicious Chicken on xxx.
You contemplate chickens, attempting to awaken the life force contained in the feather.
You cluck experimentally.
You wave your feather at xxx.
Your feather flies off and thuds into xxx.

Help Information:

Memories of a Vicious Chicken is a zeroth order offensive spell that launches a loaded feather at your target.

Malich’s Penetrating Ocular Lance

What's it called
? Malich’s Penetrating Ocular Lance (in short, MPOL)

What does it do? This is the easiest spell to cast, and generally, the first to be learnt. In spite of its high sounding and venerable name, the only thing it does is produce a small amount of damage on a selected target, based on a mind-to-mind confrontation with it (a fight of wills and intelligences. Careful with cats, as they tend to prove smarter than most humans and many wizards...). The damage is very small and capped (Sekiri says that even at best, it wouldn't ever surpass the 50 hps), so its use is fairly limited beyond the newbie threshold. It is efficient for killing rats and cockroaches non-manually, and the only offensive spell that doesn't employ any component.

Where is it? Being a total-newbie spell with almost non-existent skill and bonus requirements, it is logical to asume it will be hidden inside all of the Begynners' Magick volumes at the Gyms of the main institutions for the advancement of Wizardry.

What does it require? Nothing at all. A strong mindset (high INT) is appreciated.

What skills do I need? Channeling

Has it worked? The proper output should read something like this:

You prepare to cast
Malich's Penetrating Ocular Lance on xxx.
You fix xxx with your stare.

Your mind tears into that of xxx.

Help Information:

Malich's Penetrating Ocular Lance - battle of wits.

Malich's Penetrating Ocular Lance is a zeroth order offensive spell that inflicts damage based on the relative strengths of your psyche and that of your target.

Independent Recurring Vocaliser

What's it called
? Independent Recurring Vocaliser (in short, IRV).

What does it do? Well, nor much really. This is a toy spell that will allow you to make any object you wish to 'talk' for an amount of time (time probably related to skills, but capped not too highly). Maybe 'talk' is excessive: the object will only repeat a line you instill on it, and repeat it from time to time. The effect is similar to that of an octagon pendant (which has to be 'trained', and whose line-repeating is permanent).
The spell isn't much used, except for comical lines and effects from time to time (roasts saying 'eat me' and things like that...).

Where is it? Like all its toy companions, it properly belongs to the Gym Tomes ('Begynner's Magick') that are kept in all major magical education facilities around the Disc.

What does it require? Nothing at all, unless you want to consider the item on which you cast it (which may be of any type) as a 'component'.

What skills do I need? Channeling, Binding, Evoking

Has it worked? A correct output should be something like this:

You prepare to cast Independent Recurring Vocaliser.
You sniff xxx (item).
You run your hands over xxx.
You exclaim: Pop!
xxx glows blue for a moment.
What message do you want xxx to repeat?

Help Information:

Grisald’s Chilly Touch

What's it called?
Grisald's Chilly Touch (in short, GCT)

What does it do?
Not much, really, being as it is a toy necromancer spell (for that job, I prefer the zombie hands or headless bodies...). It gives you cold hands, so people will jump and become startled when you touch them. Just slightly creepy I guess...

Where is it? As you'd imagine, it takes abode in the Begynner's Magick grimoire, at all Wizard Guild Gyms.

What does it require?
Nothing at all.

What skills do I need?
Summoning, Healing

Has it worked?
A correct output should be something like this:

You prepare to cast Grisald's Chilly Touch on xxx.
You focus on your hand, summoning the chill of the grave.
You draw the blood away from your hand, making the flesh go all cold and tingly. Oooh.
You reach out and touch xxx’s bare skin with your cold hand.

Help Information:

Friddlefrod’s Hydratic Extrusion

What's it called? Friddlefrod’s Hydratic Extrusion (nicknamed FHE)

What does it do? Well, let's just say I wouldn't call it the most useful of spells. The only thing it does, to my knowledge, is dry you (or others) when you are wet (which may be the result of sweating, raining or having taken a swim in some watery places). The help information says it all, really, and with less words. It might be useful to tm the skills at beginner levels. The failure effects are an extra amount of wetness.

Where is it? Being a non-practical, toy spell (unless it really annoys you to go around soaked and dripping), it is found in the Begynners' Magick tomes at Wizard guild's gyms.

What does it require?: No components at all.

What skills do I require?: Water, Evoking, Water (2)

Has it worked?: A good output should read something like this:

You prepare to cast Friddlefrod's Hydratic Extrusion on xxx.
You attempt to sense the location of water on xxx.
You point at xxx, feeling for the presence of water.
You send out a message to xxx, reminding any water there how it likes to flow.
You visualise flow lines passing down xxx.

Help Information:

Eringyas' Surprising Bouquet

What's it called?
Eringyas’ Surprising Bouquet (in short, ESB)

What does it do?
Erm... Well, it creates a nice bunch of flowers. There's quite a variety which needs be listed (I'll do some work on that field one of these days), among which are heliotropes and Baby's breath. No fancy roses, tulips or orchids, though...
As to its uses, aside from taskmastering skills at very low levels, they fall on the realm of the aesthetic. Which lady would refuse a nice bouquet of flowers, even is octarinely scented?
A not too distant tweak changed them a bit (maybe gave them odours?), but that remains to be checked too...

Where is it?
Being a toy-spell, you shall find it at all the Wizard Guild Gyms, inside the Begynners' Magick tomes therein.

What does it require?
no components whatsoever.

What skills do I need?
Channeling, Evoking, Charming

Has it worked?
A correct output should be something like this:

You prepare to cast Eringyas' Surprising Bouquet.
You carefully open a rift into the flower dimension by staring hard into space.
You conjure up the image of the flower you want in your mind and sketch it out in the space in front of you.
You wave your arms wildly, attracting the attention of the bunch of flowers you wish to bring back.
You quickly reach into the flower dimension and drag a bunch of flowers screaming into this plane.

Help Information:

flowers - Make someone some nice flowers

Eringyas' Surprising Bouquet is a miscellaneous type spell that conjures a nice bunch of flowers into being.

Notes:

So... flowers I've got from the spell... All 'look quite fresh', and the bouquets 'shimmer in octarine'.

-anemones:
Despite the name, these are not squidgy sea creatures, but brightly coloured, daisy-like flowers with thick petals and a jaunty air.

-sense and sensibilities:
Made of soft and fuzzy pussywillow catkins, this bouquet not only looks cute, but feels cute also. Gufnorkians would be very appreciative of its fluffiness.

-moonflowers:
These flowers aren't white as one would expect, but pure black. They are often sent as good luck tokens to those whose work takes them abroad by night, and who enjoy the cover of darkness.

-oleanders:
Cheerful pinwheel shaped blooms of pure white adorning a thin branch are collected here. The flowers give off a lovely fragrance somehow reminiscent of one's own mortality. This bouquet would be perfect for sending to an assassin admired from afar.

-bleeding hearts:
Graceful thin stalks bearing heart shaped white flowers with red petals dripping downward say either "I love you", or "Thanks for fulfulling the contract on my heart."

-rain-daisies:
Called rain-daisies because the petals have a glistening, bedewed appearance, these blue-white flowers with thin petals radiating from a cheerful yellow centre are as refreshing as a gentle spring rain.

-heliotropes:
On first look this bouquet seems to be made of one large flower, but closer examination reveals large flat clusters made up of hundreds of tiny, intensely purple, flowers. The whole gives off a heavenly chocolate-vanilla scent.

-fuchsias:
Brilliant red and purple flowers with a suspicious resemblance to a lady's bloomers dangle appealingly in this bouquet. Perfect for an evening out, or sending to your favourite assassin, these flowers will complement any look.

-matthiola stocks:
Sturdy stalks covered completely with pyramids of red, spice-scented flowers make up this bouquet, providing a treat for the nose as well as the eyes.

-bachelor's buttons:
Cheerful, thistle-like tufts in bright blues and pinks combine for a happy-go-lucky effect. These flowers have been used to discreetly signal that the wearer is single.

-bat-flowers:
These enormous flowers are midnight black, and their outline eerily resembles a bat in flight with wings spread, trailing wisps of dark smoke. There are even little indentations which look like eyes. Be careful with this bouquet, it's watching you.

-baby's breath:
Tiny, pure white flowers tremble on fragile stalks, giving this bouquet a lovely, airy look.

Smelling them gives a small series of feedbacks ('You smell the bunch of xxx's. Wonderful! / Delightful! / Lovely! / Mmm! / Aaachoo!).
